With a contract expiring in the summer, Jordan Amavi is finding himself at the centre of a lot of attention recently.

Teams in Serie A and in the Premier League were reportedly interested, with Crystal Palace and Arsenal named from this side of the Channel.

A team who wasn’t mentioned by L’Equipe, who carried the original report, was Leeds United, whom Canal Plus allegedly claimed were close to signing the 26-year-old ‘in the next few days’.

With Ezgjan Alioski and Leif Davis in the role already, Marcelo Bielsa isn’t in desperate need of another left-back, but perhaps more experienced competition for the North Macedonia international could go a long way.

Either way, that claim from Canal Plus doesn’t appear to be on the mark, as Fabrice Lamperti, a journalist for well-informed local newspaper La Provence, has gone out of his way to dispel it.

Taking to social media, he said Marseille ‘weren’t aware’ of an impending Amavi transfer to Leeds, with those in charge ‘flabbergasted’ at the claims.

This means Amavi is ‘far from being close to Leeds’ for a transfer before Monday, which is when the transfer window shuts.
