Anderlecht have ‘filed a case with FIFA’ over Harry Toffolo’s failed move from Nottingham Forest at the end of the January transfer window.
That’s according to Het Nieuwsblad, who say the Belgian side have taken the cancelled transfer to FIFA after it was cancelled at the last minute.
Toffolo had appeared set to move to Belgium in the final days of the January transfer window as they looked for a new left-back until the end of the season.
Several reports made it clear that everything was done before it was unceremoniously cancelled by Nottingham Forest at the last minute.
It was initially claimed this was done because they were concerned about a lack of cover for Renan Lodi, who had been keeping Toffolo out of Steve Cooper’s side but had picked up an injury.
The move never went through but Anderlecht have been furious about it since, with their CEO of Sports later commenting on the cancellation ruining his club’s transfer plans, while Anderlecht manager Bryan Riemer labelled the Tricky Trees as ‘extremely unprofessional’.
That was then followed by a report today that stated it was actually agent interference which had led to the deal collapsing, adding a new spin to the drama.
Het Nieuwsblad follow that up today explaining that Anderlecht are working on the next transfer window and particularly their need for a left-back.
They’re following Elvin Cafarquliyev at Qarabag after missing out on Toffolo, who they ‘almost plucked’ from Nottingham Forest in January.
Forest reportedly ‘blew that off in extremis’, according to the newspaper, and Anderlecht have since ‘filed a case with FIFA’ for that which is still pending.
There is no mention of the nature of that case or the complaint at this point, but it seems the Belgians believed they’ve been wronged by Nottingham Forest and want compensation.
It’s a situation which is likely to develop in the coming weeks, which we’ll naturally be keeping an eye on.
