Lyon are in the market for a new forward to strengthen their attacking division, but they won’t do it ‘at any cost’, claims Foot Mercato.

After facing issues to sign Villarreal’s Karl Toko Ekambi, the Ligue 1 side have turned their attention towards PSV Eindhoven’s Cody Gakpo.

It’s claimed Newcastle United also have their sights on the 20-year-old, who can play anywhere up front.

The Dutchman has largely been used on the left wing and has impressed this season by scoring four goals and registering five assists in 18 league appearances (only seven starts).

According to the report, Lyon have held initial discussions to sign Gakpo and they would have to pay €10m to the Eredivisie side to conclude the transfer. However, they will face competition from Newcastle to sign the Eindhoven-born attacker.

With PSV looking at around €10m for the player, the Magpies have ‘significant financial resources’ to complete the deal, if Steve Bruce’s side are indeed keen on signing Gakpo.
