Tottenham Hotspur’s Pierre-Emile Højbjerg has emerged as an option for Ajax in January.
That’s according to Voetbal International, relayed by Soccernews.nl, who state the Eredivisie side are eyeing up a move for him.
It’s pointed out the Dutch club had tried signing the Tottenham player in the past, without providing any clarity on the time frame, and he’s back on their radar for the winter market.
This claim is made by VI journalist Matthijs Vegter, who seems to have urged Ajax to take a another look at the 28-year-old.
The Amsterdam club are in the market looking for a new midfielder and Vegter is of the belief the former Southampton man would be the ‘best option’ for them.
Højbjerg has lost prominence after Ange Postecoglou arrived at Tottenham in the summer. He has been restricted to only two league starts this season and this has seen him get linked with a move away from Spurs.
Ajax are in the list of the clubs eyeing a move for the Denmark international. The report states they also have other candidates, but the VI journalist has explained why they have to consider a move for the Tottenham midfielder.
“He ended up outside the starting XI at Tottenham at the start of the season under the new coach. However, he has been playing more in recent matches. He has of course been in the picture before at Ajax. He is really a leader and controller who enjoys defensive work,” he said.
