Following a failed loan to Lyon during the second half of last season, Tottenham had to once again deal with Tanguy Ndombélé last summer.
The Frenchman is as far from Antonio Conte’s plans as any Spurs player could be, and the Premier League side were lucky enough that Napoli were willing to give him a chance.
They even agreed to include a €25m or so option to buy in the deal, just in case the Tottenham midfielder rejuvenated himself in the south of Italy and recovered his old form.
That, however, has not been the case, as while there have been flashes of brilliance here and there when called upon by Luciano Spalletti, the player has been more of a rotational option than anything else.
This means that there’s a big chance that Napoli will move on in the summer, and previous claims from the Italian media have stated the Serie A side are unlikely to spend money on him in the summer.
Not only that, but Il Mattino add another layer on top of all this, explaining the Italians are eyeing up summer free agent Mahmoud Dahoud, who will leave Borussia Dortmund at the end of the season.
They start that ‘the possibility of intervening on a free transfer is an important fact for the team currently coached by Luciano Spalletti’, because they could sell Diego Demme and ‘not redeem Tanguy Ndombélé’, who is currently owned by Tottenham.
After all, why sign someone who hasn’t fully convinced for €25m when you could take a gamble on a solid player for free?
Therefore, there’s a strong chance that Tottenham could be once again faced with an Ndombélé-sized headache in the summer, which will bring very little joy to the likes of Daniel Levy and Fabio Paratici, who will have to find him a new exit route in the next transfer window.
