Torino are ‘expecting a relaunch’ from Liverpool for defender Perr Schuurs this summer as Jurgen Klopp targets a new centre-back.
That’s according to Tuttosport, who say those in charge of Torino are expecting the Reds to return for the Dutchman after already seeing a €30m bid rejected in the past.
The newspaper explains that rumours are starting to grow around Schuurs, who has impressed for Torino since arriving from Ajax in a €9.4m deal last August.
First Napoli were believed to be looking at him as a replacement for Kim Min-jae and then it was Liverpool, who were believed to have proposed a €30m deal that was turned down.
The current focus is on Crystal Palace, who might be in the hunt for a replacement for Joachim Andersen and have seemingly been getting in touch with Schuurs’ agents in an attempt to make something happen.
They’re at the front of the queue but Torino have not ruled out Liverpool either and those in charge at the Italian club are ‘expecting a relaunch’ from the Reds in the coming weeks.
That’s because Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is believed to be targeting a new centre back now that his midfield rebuild, which has seen him sign Alexis MacAllister and Dominik Szoboszlai so far, appears to be completed.
Any deal for Schuurs would be an expensive one as Torino technical director David Vagnati has been making it clear to agents and intermediaries he wants €40m.
If such a high offer were to arrive then that would make the club ‘question everything’, particularly as the clubs who can afford such a price would also be able to lure the player with ‘ultra-million salaries’.
Schuurs, for his part, is currently in London to watch his sister compete at Wimbledon and the growing belief is that he may use that trip as a chance to hold ‘market encounters’ with potential suitors.
Whether Liverpool are one of them remains to be seen but they, at least as far as those in charge at Torino are concerned, are very much in the mix.
