FC Porto are expecting ‘harassment’ for winger Pepê in the January transfer window following Newcastle United’s efforts to sign him this summer.
Correio da Manhã cover the player today and how he has enjoyed a ‘constant evolution’ at the Portuguese club since his arrival in 2021.
He has been ‘asserting himself more and more’ as the weeks go by, so much so that the interest has grown in him around Europe.
There are several teams in the Premier League all keen, including Newcastle, who were linked throughout the summer transfer window.
Back in June we covered two separate reports regarding their interest, with it claimed they were expected to make a bid and then that an official offer had indeed been made.
That was followed by a report in August that a €35m from Newcastle had been rejected, but they were continuing to follow the player regardless.
Porto are well aware of the interest and moved quickly after the summer to hand him a new contract until 2027 that crucially raised his release clause to €70m.
They’re still expecting moves in the January transfer window and the player is also keen on a switch, so long as he can get a team ‘from the top of the Premier League table.’
Newcastle aren’t quite there yet but they are sitting in the top six at present following a solid start to the season and some impressive performances of late.
If they continue that form to the World Cup and then afterwards then that is likely to give them a chance of getting Pepê, a man they chased through the summer and are presumably still keeping an eye on given his good performances.
