With the English media reporting at the weekend that Tottenham Hotspur are interested in the signing of Manuel Ugarte from Sporting, the Portuguese press is unsurprisingly reacting to the news today.
As newspaper O Jogo talks about the situation, they write that the Lions actually have ‘every interest’ in negotiating the midfielder this summer.
Since it’s not only Tottenham, but also other Premier League clubs who want the 21-year-old, this is described as the ‘idyllic’ scenario for Sporting, who’ll be able to make a great sale.
The Lions are still working to get a bigger percentage of the player’s rights, but according to O Jogo, the general idea is to sell him for around the price of his release clause, which stands at €60m.
With reports claiming Tottenham would accept to loan Ugarte back to Sporting for a year, that sounds perfect for the Lisbon side, who wouldn’t have to worry about a replacement this summer.
If confirmed, that gives Spurs an advantage in a race which also has Aston Villa, Leeds United, Newcastle United and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
