Bayern Munich made an enquiry about Kai Havertz’s situation at Chelsea as they sought a replacement for Robert Lewandowski.

That’s according to Sport 1, who cover the efforts made by the German giants via their chief reporter Kerry Hau today.

They explain that Bayern chief Hasan Salihamidzic has had many well-known players on his transfer list in recent months and Havertz was one of them.

Hau reports that those in charge at the Allianz Arena asked Havertz’s agency, ROOF, about his situation at Chelsea and future plans.

Salihamidzic has a ‘very close relationship’ with the agency and looked to take advantage of that to learn about the German star.

He would have been a possible replacement for Lewandowski, who has joined Barcelona, with Hau even stating that “we have heard that Bayern would even have preferred to place Lewandowski at Chelsea in order to bring Havertz to Munich,” on the Die Bayern-Woche podcast.

However, Thomas Tuchel ‘cancelled’ the idea of Lewandowski going to Stamford Bridge early on in the process, and Lewandowski pushed for Barcelona, ending that idea.

That meant the idea of signing Havertz quickly faded because it made no sense from a ‘sporting and an economic point of view’ for Bayern. The player also did not communicate any desire to leave Chelsea this summer.

Nevertheless, he is likely to remain on the agenda for the German giants, who see the 23-year-old as a future option and do have a good relationship with ROOF.

That’s something Hau also backed up, adding “Havertz is a player that those in charge find interesting. Salihamidzic would have liked to get him back in his Leverkusen days, Uli Hoeneß would also have liked to have him in Munich.”
