Besiktas have cut off contact with Everton striker Cenk Tosun over fears about his long-term fitness.
That’s according to Sabah, who say the Turkish striker is not set to return to full fitness until August at the earliest.
Tosun has been absent through injury for much of this season but was present for Frank Lampard’s first game against Brentford.
He’s not been seen since, with Lampard confirming that he was suffering from a quadriceps injury and unlikely to be seen any time soon.
It means he might not be seen for Everton again, with his contract set to expire in the summer and the Blues not keen on extending his unsuccessful stay in the North East.
And it seems it could be set to ruin his long-term transfer plans either, with Sabah explaining that Besiktas have pulled back from talks because of the injury.
The newspaper explains that questions have been raised about Tosun’s suitability and Besiktas’ management are now ‘wary’ of him.
They were in negotiations with the Everton striker earlier this year but ‘halted’ those when he picked up his latest injury, when ‘things changed’.
Tosun had wanted to return to his former club, but now he has ‘not heard from Istanbul in a long time’ because Besiktas are ‘indecisive’ about the transfer because of his injury.
He will only be able to return to fitness work in July and return to the field in August, something which works against him.
The striker does have a ‘close relationship’ with president Ahmet Nur Cebi and he ‘keeps the doors open’, but there’s now a debate whether the emotional side outweighs the practical.
