Manchester City star Erling Haaland and Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak can be good options for Barcelona.
That’s at least what former Barcelona star David Villa claims, and he mentioned both the Manchester City and Newcastle United strikers during a chat with Mundo Deportivo.
Robert Lewandowski has been leading the La Liga side’s attack and has starred for them this season, managing 34 goals and three assists. The 35-year-old Pole’s contract expires in 2026, with an option for another year.
Two days ago, we covered claims from Spain which stated Barcelona’s ‘big objective’ is to sign Newcastle man in the summer window.
Villa, who was at the Camp Nou between 2010 and 2013, was specifically asked which current strikers could fit Barcelona’s needs. This is when he mentioned the Manchester City frontman and the 25-year-old Sweden international.
At the start of this year, Haaland extended his contract at Manchester City until 2034. The Spaniard insists Pep Guardiola’s side won’t let him leave and Isak can be an alternative to the 24-year-old Norway international.
“He’s a great centre forward but I don’t know if City would let him go when they have just renewed his contract. There are many forwards and any of them would want to play for Barca. There is also Isak who knows La Liga. I’m sure the club will do a fantastic job to sign Lewandowski’s replacement, when necessary,” he said.
Barcelona will find it difficult to take Isak away from the Magpies. On Tuesday, Newcastle CEO Darren Eales insisted Eddie Howe’s side have no intention of selling the Swede or any other top asset.
