FC Beerschot are ‘effectively negotiating’ with Sheffield United over a deal for midfielder Ismaila Coulibaly to bring him back for a second spell at the club.

That’s according to Gazete van Antwerpen, who report that Coulibaly could be set to return from Sheffield United two years after leaving the club.

The midfielder is currently on loan at Swedish side AIK but that deal expires on July 31st and he is not set to remain in Sweden and instead return to Brammall Lane.

Whether they plan for him to remain as part of the squad for life back in the Championship or want to move him on is not yet clear, but Beerschot seemingly want to test that either way.

Gazete van Antwerpen report that the Belgian side remain keen on the player after a loan spell at the club from September 2020 to June 2022 in which he ‘was allowed to mature’ and became a crucial player for the club and ‘immediately achieved success’.

That spell was ruined by injuries, but the club still think highly of the Sheffield United man and would be glad to bring him back if they can.

Their interest has been bolstered by the player himself, who believes he has no future in England and ‘really wants’ to go back to the only club where he ‘has felt really good over the past four years’. That is, of course, Beerschot.

Thus, the Belgian club are now ‘effectively negotiating’ with Sheffield United about a deal, although it is unclear whether talks are taking place over a loan deal or a permanent move.
