Feyenoord have been handed a surprise bonus from Yankuba Minteh’s move to Brighton and Hove Albion from Newcastle United.
That’s according to journalist Martin Krabbendam, who reports on the matter today via Feyenoord Pings.
Minteh completed a €35m move to Brighton at the end of last month as the Magpies looked to secure a big sale before the Profit and Sustainability deadline.
Minteh had only returned to the club this summer after a successful loan spell with Feyenoord, who he had joined last year immediately after arriving from Odense BK in an €8m deal in July 2023.
They would have been delighted to have him back but that became unrealistic, particularly when Brighton made it clear they were prepared to pay Newcastle a big sum for his signature.
That €35m deal was concluded on the first of this month, securing a major profit for Newcastle on a player who never played a single game for them.
And it seems Feyenoord have also benefitted too, with a clause in the loan deal ensuring they’ve received a slice of the pie.
“Minteh earns Feyenoord more than €1m,” reported Krabbendam.
“These are partly costs incurred, but actually also a kind of performance bonus for the development of the player. Then loaning is lucrative.”
