Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold is in his final year of contract and Real Madrid want to sign him next year.

Two days ago, Marca reported the Reds are aware the right-back won’t sign an extension.

A day later, ABC said the La Liga side could consider signing the Liverpool star in January, but only for way less than his market price. Dani Carvajal’s serious knee injury would have encouraged them to alter their plans to strengthen the right-back position.

Saturday’s edition of Marca says the Champions League winners ‘don’t want to play dirty’ to sign the 26-year-old.

Los Blancos have a good relationship with Liverpool, who are seen as a ‘friendly club’. Their aim is to secure his services through a ‘cordial operation’, so they don’t spoil ties with the Premier League side.

Liverpool have tried to convince the England international to sign an extension but haven’t been successful so far. They could sell him in January, to avoid losing him for free next summer.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side know the English club are ‘playing their cards’ by trying to renew. They are also aware Liverpool are running out of time and could sell Alexander-Arnold in the next window.

Marca say Real Madrid could eventually sign Alexander-Arnold, but they want to carry out a potential operation ‘always respecting Liverpool and the deadlines’. In other words, they would not open negotiations with the player until January 1st.
