On Thursday, both big Italian newspapers took the stance that José Mourinho wanted a reunion at AS Roma with Nemanja Matić.

The Serbian midfielder is currently out of favour at Manchester United, and despite renewing his contract until 2023, the club wouldn’t be against a sale.

Corriere dello Sport went as far as stating Matić was a ‘priority’ for Mourinho, who has worked with him at both Chelsea and Old Trafford in the past, and a fee of below €10m could do the trick.

The same newspaper continue with that angle on Friday, reporting that the Portuguese manager ‘would be pleased’ to work with his former pupil once again; a wish AS Roma will only grant on one condition.

The Italian outlet the Serie A side ‘don’t intend to overpay for a 33-year-old who earns so much’, and the only way they would be able to get a deal done would be at a ‘smart price’.

A lot will depend on how badly Solskjaer wants to keep Matić or whether or not Manchester United find an adequate replacement on the market, but if someone comes knocking with a reasonable fee, we doubt the Red Devils will stand in the player’s way.
