Last month, reports in England stated Manchester United scouts watched Anderlecht’s Sergio Gómez in action against Charleroi on November 27th, where he scored a brace as his side registered a 3-1 win.
The left-back has starred for the Belgian club, managing five goals and seven assists in 17 league appearances this season.
La Dernière Heure claim that ‘despite interest from Marseille and even Manchester United’, Vincent Kompany’s side would like to retain the Spaniard.
It’s no surprise the 21-year-old’s impressive form has ‘charmed’ several French clubs like Lille, Rennes, Marseille and AS Monaco. There has also been talk of ‘interest from big clubs’ like the Red Devils, Inter Milan and Ajax.
Anderlecht supporters fear seeing the player leave in the winter market, but DH say ‘this will certainly not be the case’. That’s because the clubs interested in Gómez have not made any contact with Anderlecht, who ‘do not intend’ to let the player leave.
Gómez has a contract until 2025 and Kompany’s side want to keep him at the club until 2023. According to DH, the player ‘agrees with the plan’ of Anderlecht.
Even though the door for a transfer seems closed, ‘caution is required’ in these cases, especially if a suitor offers ‘several tens of millions’. If that happens, the report states Anderlecht will want to sit around the table to negotiate.
It’s to be noted DH’s summary says ‘despite interest from Manchester United’, while within the report, they mention about the ‘talk of interest’ from the Old Trafford club. Right now, this feels like a rumour without much behind it.
