It looks like we’ll have another saga for Brazilian side Atlético Mineiro to keep Nathan from Chelsea for a longer period.

Loaned by the Blues since 2018, the player could have his spell extended once again, in case the negotiations between the clubs are successful.

Atlético Mineiro have been very clear about their wish, and now director Alexandre Mattos has claimed that manager Jorge Sampaoli is another one who’s asked for the midfielder’s stay.

“The idea with Nathan is that we stay with him. I already talked to him and his representative. There is an idea to stay here. We are having a hard time there with Chelsea”, said Alexandre Mattos (via UOL).

“It seems like they’ve set a date for the return of the English Premier League, maybe that will help sort it with Chelsea. The sooner the better. He’s a player who has many positions, Sampaoli likes him. We will do our best to keep him.”

UOL writes that Atlético Mineiro believe they can find a deal with Chelsea in the next month, close to the end of his loan spell with the club.

The club have already started talks with the player’s representative Giuliano Bertolucci.

This is Nathan’s fourth loan spell, following his time at Vitesse, Amiens, and Belenenses. He was signed by the Blues in 2015, but never had a chance to make his debut for the club.

His contract with Chelsea expires in 2021.
