Earlier today, we covered claims from the French media saying Manchester United are making a new effort to sign Eduardo Camavinga from Rennes.
It was claimed by RMC journalist Mohamed Bouhafsi that the Red Devils will meet the player’s entourage ‘in the coming days’, even though it won’t be an easy task to sign him.
Camavinga’s contract with Rennes expires in 2022, and there’s of course some expectation regarding a free move next year. Now club director Florian Maurice spoke to TV Rennes about his situation, analysing the chances of an extension for the 18-year-old.
“We will have discussions with him tomorrow to find out his desire and his determination,” Maurice told TV Rennes (via Canal Supporters).
“I’m calm because we have a situation where there is a player who is still at Stade Rennais. It seems that important clubs are on the player. Now we are waiting to see. I think Eduardo won’t want to leave Rennes free. So either we will find an agreement this summer with a club, or we will find a solution to extend.”
The official was directly quizzed about offers from Manchester United, Paris Saint Germain and Real Madrid, but couldn’t confirm the interest from those clubs.
“No. There are certainly clubs that want Eduardo, but he also has a price and there’ll also have to be an agreement at that level. The amount of a transfer is tied to the performance of the player and the finances of the clubs that want the player.”
Regarding the claims from the French media saying Camavinga would only leave Rennes for at least €100m, the director made it clear that this figure never came out of his mouth.
“Me, I never spoke of €10m but it’s a player who went international in September and who perhaps had a slightly more delicate season. But I still have confidence in Eduardo’s quality.”
That would suggest Manchester United and other clubs could get the player for less than €100m this summer.
