On Wednesday night, a story from France Football emerged that Claudio Ranieri, newly announced as Nantes’ manager, wanted to bring Arsenal’s David Ospina to Ligue 1 with him.

The French magazine stated the Gunners would be willing to sell for around €4m, a very affordable price for a club like Nantes, and it looked like a potential goer.

However, one of the club’s directors, Franck Kita, had a chat with 20minutes in France about the potential arrivals at Nantes and clarified the situation regarding the Arsenal keeper.

Asked about the reported interest in Ospina, he said: “We enquired, but there’s no way it can be done.”

Since we highly doubt the reason behind that would be the reported valuation by Arsenal, there’s only two ways this would have happened.

Either Ospina isn’t interested in joining Nantes, who finished seventh in Ligue 1 last year, or his wage demands were far beyond what the French side were prepared to offer him.

After all, there’s worse gigs than playing in the cups and in the Europa League for Arsenal, is there?
