Since Jadon Sancho moved to Borussia Dortmund and did so well, there’s been an increased German interest in signing young English footballers who may not be getting the chances they’d like at their current clubs.
Everton have already seen this, with the confident-verging-on-arrogant quest of RB Leipzig to sign Ademola Lookman. An effort that despite all the publicity and chats with the German media, led to nothing for the Bundesliga club.
Now Schalke are looking at the English route, and after rumours of interest, Bild claim the club are very serious about signing Jonjoe Kenny. Jochen Schneider, a member of the club’s board, is ‘currently working hard’ to build a transfer for the 22 year old.
Schalke don’t have a great budget this summer, so they would be looking to sign Kenny on loan, allowing him to develop. That could potentially be of big help to Everton and the right back, making it an interesting option.
Crystal Palace and Burnley are named as competition, but dismissed as ‘mid-table clubs’ who Schalke don’t need to be too worried about.
