When Vitória de Guimarães announced the signing of Marcus Edwards from Tottenham Hotspur yesterday, we wrote an article saying the Portuguese press was still a little lost about the move.
Local outlets had no idea about the transfer’s details, but now, newspaper O Jogo brings a fairly complete story about it.
The outlet says Edwards has ‘detached’ himself from the Spurs, and Vitória de Guimarães didn’t pay one single penny for the move.
For Tottenham to make some money with the player, then they will depend on a future transfer. That’s because the London side have kept 50% of a move.
Marcus Edwards has signed a four-year contract with Vitória, and will be protected by a €15m release clause.
“I hope things go well on a personal level. I am a technician, I like to have the ball, create opportunities and break the defences. I want to make fans cheer, let’s see how things go“, said Edwards.
“I know it is a big club in the Portuguese league and they’ve qualified for the Europa League group stage. So this is a good opportunity for me and I didn’t even hesitate when I was shown it. We want to get as high as possible in the standings and continue in European competitions.”
Marcus Edwards has been at Tottenham’s academy since he was a teenager. He’s had loan spells at Norwich City and Excelsior, and leaves Spurs with only one appearance in the first team.
