Earlier on Wednesday, we covered a story claiming that Everton were still interested in Boulaye Dia, with Salernitana reportedly set to ask for €30m.
The plan from the Serie A club is to try and resist offers sent their way by agents and clubs for the striker, but there’s only so much they can put up with.
What works in Everton’s favour as well is that they own a striker that Salernitana like, and that’s Neal Maupay, according to La Cronache, relayed by Salernotizie.
The Frenchman was brought to Goodison Park in hope he could emulate his previous form at Brighton, but what followed was anything but that, with the 27-year-old scoring just once in 27 league appearances.
That doesn’t appear to have put off Salernitana, as the newspaper claim the Serie A side are ‘determined to launch the decisive assault’ and ‘finally signing’ Maupay.
What helps is that his price has ‘significantly decreased’, going from €18m to €12m, after his ‘uninspiring experience’ at Everton, but he remains a profile that could ‘come in handy for Paulo Sousa’.
Not only that, but he could also be a useful bargaining chip for the Toffees should they decide to firmly pursue Dia this summer.
