At the weekend, Spanish outlet Fichajes reported West Ham United’s interest in Flamengo centre-forward Pedro.

It was claimed the Hammers ‘seem to lead’ the race for the striker, whose transfer would cost over €40m.

That story may have made some noise among Flamengo fans, who were excited with the possibility of selling the player for that much money. But as soon as it got to the Brazilian media, it was completely dismissed.

Journalist Jorge Nicola today speaks about that rumour on his Youtube channel, and starts by claiming that when speaking to people from the Brazilian club, he was told there was never any contact from West Ham for that transfer.

It’s then mentioned that €40m sounds far above Pedro’s market value. Then there are two reasons why the Hammers wouldn’t be working on that signing right now.

The first that they already have three players for that position, and then that the club are completely focused on fighting against relegation, and wouldn’t be working on that kind of investment for the summer.

All of Nicola’s arguments do make sense, but just in case West Ham fans are hopeful of that signing, here’s another claim which could be saved for the future: he says that €30m should be enough to take Pedro from Flamengo.
