At the start of the week, right after the Spanish media claimed Manchester City would go after Sporting’s Matheus Nunes to replace Bernardo Silva, the Portuguese press was quick to say that Pep Guardiola’s side hadn’t made any moves for the Lions player.
It turns out that today, as newspaper Correio da Manhã joins the bandwagon, they bring some information which seems to be straight from the Lisbon side.
In a very short story, outlet writes that ‘Sporting deny’ that Manchester City made an offer for Nunes. They also add that the Lions demand €50m to let the player go this summer.
Even though the Premier League side have been linked to the midfielder for a long time, more specifically since Pep Guardiola praised him after a Champions League clash between the two clubs, there were never strong rumours regarding talks for the player.
Manchester City do seem like a club who could take Nunes from Sporting this summer, because despite the offer from Wolverhampton Wanderers, the player doesn’t want a club who are not fighting for titles or featuring in the Champions League.
But at this stage, the 23-year-old looks more likely to stay where he is for another season.
