A week ago, the Portuguese media reported Crystal Palace had made a €6m bid for PSV goalkeeper Jeroen Zoet.
Benfica are also interested in the player and that’s a reason for the local media to be following the situation.
No updates were reported since then, so we can only imagine that things didn’t advance much. But today, newspaper Correio da Manhã brings more news on the chase.
They say the last demands from PSV are of €10m, which are considered to be too much for Benfica, but wouldn’t scare a Premier League club like Crystal Palace.
The Portuguese club don’t want to get into any ‘madness’ to land the goalkeeper, and will only continue to negotiate in case the Dutch side accept to sell him for about €6m.
Despite being a rich club in terms of sales, Benfica never want to spend much.
We’ve already pointed out that Crystal Palace could pay Zoet a bigger salary than the Portuguese side, and now the London club have apparently already offered the rival’s top bid for him.
Should the Crystal Palace interest be as firm as Benfica seem to think, the Portuguese club’s unwillingness to go any higher can only be a good thing for Frank de Boer.
