Everton’s Mason Holgate will not be leaving loan club Southampton to join VfB Stuttgart on deadline day of the January transfer window.
That’s according to Sky Germany, who say the Bundesliga side have decided against a move for the defender after making inquiries.
Holgate was linked with a surprise move to Stuttgart earlier today, with reports indicating that they had opened talks with Everton and Southampton over a potential deal to sign him as a replacement for the injured Dan Axel Zagadou.
The Swabians were considering a move for various players to replace him last night, with Sky explaining that sports director Fabian Wohlgemuth looked at a few candidates.
The Everton man, who is currently on loan at Southampton, was one of them but after making inquiries Stuttgart have ‘decided against’ signing him. He will therefore be remaining at St Mary’s, unless Everton decide to do something else with him on deadline day.
One man who may be leaving Southampton, though, is fellow defender Lyanco. Journalist Bruno Andrade reports that he is in Corinthians’ sights.
According to him Southampton value the player at €4m and that makes a deal possible for the Brazilians, although a move is being complicated by Al-Gharafa SC.
They signed the player on loan from Southampton in the summer and have made it clear that they will not waive that loan contract or make an exit easy.
