Bayern Munich have long been admirers of Leroy Sané, who is currently sidelined with a serious injury he suffered in August and is expected back in February.
On Wednesday, SportBild reported the 23-year-old wants to leave Manchester City ‘immediately’ and join the Bavarians in January. His contract with the English champions expires in 2021 and it was also explained he’s ‘persistently’ refusing to sign a new deal.
According to Bild, the winger is the main target for the Bundesliga winners in the next summer window. However, they are now dealing with the player’s wish to join them in January. It’s a huge deal, but at the same time, it has caused a problem for Bayern.
That’s because any approach for Pep Guardiola’s star would see Bayern spend around €100m and it would cost them the same amount to sign Bayern Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz, who is also included in their transfer wish list.
In addition to this, they have to deal with Philippe Coutinho’s case. He is currently on loan from Barcelona and to sign the Brazilian on a permanent deal, the German champions will have to spend €120m.
Bayern are not in a position to spend €300m on three players and they need to make a decision which they plan to sign.
The feeling from Bild’s report is that Sané still remains one of the main targets for Bayern and his contract situation at Manchester City could force the Premier League winners to offload him.
