Villarreal are ‘negotiating with Tottenham’ to try and avoid paying the €15m to sign Juan Foyth on a permanent basis this summer.
The Argentine has been on loan with the Spanish side since the summer, when it was made clear he was not a part of Jose Mourinho’s plans for this season.
He’s established himself a key player under Unai Emery since, and several reports have indicated that they are keen to make his move a permanent one.
That is easy for them to do as they have a €15m clause to do so, although reports in England have stated that the Spanish side were looking to negotiate and bring that down.
A report in Spanish newspaper AS later hinted that was not the case, stating that Villarreal were ‘willing’ to pay the €15m clause to Tottenham as Foyth has ‘convinced’ them with his performances.
That was a direct contradiction to what was said in England, but now La Razón turn it back on it’s head.
According to them, Villarreal will ‘not exercise’ the option that they have on Foyth, but they are determined to keep him.
Thus, they are negotiating with Tottenham to ‘try to reach an agreement’ for a lower amount, although it’s not made clear what price they would prefer to pay.
Unai Emery is a big fan of the player, having recently admitted at a press conference that he tried to sign Foyth for Paris Saint Germain before his move to Tottenham.
Indeed, he has also admitted he wants a permanent deal, with the player himself opening up on how much he is enjoying life in Spain.
That has essentially set the groundwork for a permanent transfer, with the two clubs seemingly now at the table to reach a price they can both agree on to make it happen.
