Last summer, Inter Milan took Šime Vrsaljko on loan from Atletico Madrid and as a part of the deal, the Italian club have an option to make the transfer permanent in the summer.

The right-back has made eight starts in the league this season, with injuries limiting his appearances.

Calciomercato claims the Nerazzurri are not convinced to make his deal permanent, which is why they are looking at other options.

This is when Cédric Soares of Southampton gets a mention, with him having less than 18 months left on his contract with the Premier League outfit.

It’s explained that Luciano Spalletti’s side have already ‘contacted’ the South Coast club and also the entourage of the Portugal international to see if there is any possibility for them to land the player in the winter market.

Should the Serie A side receive ‘positive signs’, then they will ‘accelerate’ their efforts to ‘close the deal’ for Cédric and end their pursuit of Manchester United defender Matteo Darmian.

Having made 18 appearances in the league, it should be seen if Ralph Hasenhüttl is willing to let the 27-year-old leave St Mary’s in January.

Gazzetta dello Sport cover the same story, very briefly and slightly differently, just saying Inter have ‘done a survey’ for Cédric, and moved on to Darmian.
