Late last week, we covered a couple of articles looking at what Fiorentina in Serie A could do on the transfer market in January.
One of their needs going forward is a midfielder, preferably a regista, with two players on their list: Leicester City’s Dennis Praet and Arsenal’s Lucas Torreira.
Neither are easy deals to pull off, as the pair’s situations at their respective clubs, while varied, make things a tad complicated.
Take the Arsenal midfielder, for example.
Pushed to one side by Mikel Arteta, Torreira was shipped off to Atlético Madrid on loan, where many thought Diego Simeone would be a great manager for him to work under.
Unfortunately, the Uruguay international has barely played, and there will be questions asked about whether or not finding him a new side might be worthwhile.
That depends if Arsenal are able to do so, as it wouldn’t be surprising if Atlético Madrid preferred keeping Torreira around for squad depth.
As for Praet, his situation at Leicester is different, often used by Brendan Rodgers, who has grown somewhat fond of the Belgian since the start of the campaign.
That makes him an expensive asset, and barring a change of heart, he’s likely to stay at the King Power Stadium for the foreseeable future.
That’s why La Nazione are somewhat coy when it comes to Fiorentina’s chances to pull a deal off for either player, explaining ‘an enquiry is possible’ for either or both, but that’s about it.
They do say ‘beware of competition from Torino’, mostly due to the fact that Marco Giampaolo is in charge, who so happens to be Torreira’s former manager at Sampdoria.
