Last summer, there was a need for a new left-back at Liverpool.
After all, Andy Robertson was being used almost every game, for good reason, and Jürgen Klopp wanted someone to be bought just in case something happened to his Scottish star.
The man they chose was Konstantinos Tsimikas, bought for just under £12m from Olympiakos, and a backup is exactly what the Greek defender became.
The 25-year-old only made seven appearances in all competitions for Liverpool last season, and that has led to talk of him potentially leaving less than a year after his arrival.
Tsimikas then, understandably, decided to give Liverpool a go, but with that move backfiring, a transfer to the south of Italy could be enticing.
Corriere dello Sport explain that 12 months ago, Tsimikas was the ‘first name on the list of Giuntoli’, and since Napoli now need a new left-back, ‘the relationships and videos are still there’, suggesting they know they like him and why they want him.
