Valencia probably have people who know better than we what’s better for the club’s recruitment. It hasn’t worked in recent transfer windows and Valencia’s recruitment in the time since Peter Lim took over has seen them plummet towards a relegation battle, but these people are experienced and highly paid.
Their saviour is set to be West Ham’s Simone Zaza.
Yes, forget that he hasn’t scored since Slaven Bilic signed him, forget that Juventus were incredibly keen to sell or loan last summer, forget he hasn’t scored for the national team in years, despite many chances, and forget Zaza sent Italy hurtling out of Euro 2016 with a comical penalty.
It’s all going to work.
Valencia believe the plan is good because their manager Cesare Prandelli likes the West Ham player and both are Italian so… there you go.
Spanish newspaper Marca quote the club’s director of sport García Pitarch as saying: “Simone [Zaza] we liked and we like, and he’s one of the objectives. If he can come or not will depend on the conditions.”
West Ham will surely look to gift wrap Zaza and Bilic may even drive him to Spain, but the switch could also depend on Juventus, who don’t want to be left with Zaza back on their hands next summer.
