Virtus Entella president Antonio Gozzi has confirmed the club have sold Cheick Keita to Birmingham City, in comments carried by Il Secolo.
Sounding very pleased with the January transfer, and the money it will bring the Serie B club, Gozzi is quoted as saying: “It’s our first big market deal when we are in Serie B. We are pleased to have been right about this guy that we have taken on a free transfer and has been with us for three years. We give him our best wishes.”
Il Secolo say Birmingham City are paying €1.7m for Keita, which will be a big amount of money for Virtus Entella. The Genoa club average just over 2000 fans a game, so the financial windfall will be welcome, especially considering they got the player for nothing.
Keita, born in Paris, is a 20 year old fullback and he’s been linked to other English clubs along with teams in France. It seems like someone has been marketing the player recently and trying to find a club to take him on, Gianfranco Zola looks to have provided the destination.
