According to L’Equipe, Wahbi Khazri is on the verge of leaving Sunderland to return to Ligue 1. The 26 year old joined the Championship side from Bordeaux in 2015.

L’Equipe report Rennes confirmed last night they are confident of getting a deal done for the Sunderland attacker, which will see the Tunisian head to the Breton club on a season long loan.

Sunderland will cover most of Khazri’s wage whilst the player is with Rennes, and the player after having doubts about the move to the French club, the deal should be confirmed within the next 48 hours.

Throughout this window Khazri has been pushing for a transfer from Sunderland, following their relegation to the Championship. The player has yet to start a league game this season under Simon Grayson, and his attitude has been questioned in recent days.

There was speculation this week he could be getting a move to Turkey, but it seems like a return to France is Khazri’s best option.
