Atletico Madrid continue to be linked with a move for Aston Villa fullback Matty Cash.

Despite the Spanish media pushing the story on an almost daily basis, there hasn’t been a great deal of detail around what Diego Simeone’s side think they will have to pay.

It’s one thing Atletico wanting Cash, and it’s quite another them actually paying what would be required. Whilst it’s been made clear the player wouldn’t be cheap in the summer, the exact figures of asking price and potential offer are still to be known.

Fichajes again presents the player as an option for the Spanish champions, and they say the Rojiblancos are ‘confident’ they’ll be able to sign him in the next window. There’s no explanation given for that confidence, and this could all collapse when Aston Villa set a price, or rule out an exit altogether.

Atletico paid £20m plus bonuses to take Kieran Trippier from Tottenham Hotspur in 2019, and it’s possible they’d be looking for a similar kind of deal. Steven Gerrard is unlikely to value Cash at that level, so this situation could take a turn in the coming weeks.
