Manchester United may have just been handed their invitation to push for a move for Paris Saint Germain’s Manuel Ugarte, with the French side now open to a loan deal for him.
That’s according to L’Equipe, who say PSG are keen to start securing sales but have opened to the idea of a ‘paid loan’ for the Uruguayan midfielder.
The French side are completing the signing of Joao Neves from Benfica so are now focused on moving Ugarte, who fell out of favour under Luis Enrique last season, out of the club if they can.
He now longer appears to be a part of their plans despite only arriving in a €60m deal last summer and reports throughout this summer have linked him with a move away.
Manchester United are known to be big fans of him but there has been little progress on a potential deal since the 20th of last month when it was claimed they were on the verge of an agreement.
The big hold up appears to have been PSG’s asking price, with Manchester United unable or unwilling to match their demands after already spending big on the signings of Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro this summer.
That stumbling block may have now been removed, though, as L’Equipe report that PSG would be ready to accept a paid loan with a high purchase option.
They don’t want to lose a chunk of money on the midfielder by selling him cheaply and so now appear to value the idea of sending him out on loan to revalue himself ahead of a potential move next summer.
The numbers they’re looking for in terms of a loan fee and the purchase option aren’t mentioned but we would assume that the figures would see them recoup the majority of the €60m they paid a year ago, perhaps minus one year’s worth of amortisation.
Either way, it’s an opportunity for Manchester United, who have been interested for weeks and unable to reach an agreement but now have an alternate route to getting their man.
