Hellas Verona are ready to trigger the buying option for Manchester City midfielder Ivan Ilic, according to reports from the Italian media today.
With the good season the 20-year-old is having in Serie A, he’s apparently convinced the club to spend €10m on his signing next summer.
It’s newspaper Corriere de Verona who brings the claims, and go out of their way to rain some praise on Ilic’s recent performances, claiming his season has been ‘more than notable’.
The outlet writes that Verona are ‘close’ on triggering the clause which had been agreed in the loan deal.
The agreement also includes a clause which says Manchester City could buy Ilic back later for twice that price, meaning €20m.
Earlier this week, we had already covered claims from the Italian media which said Verona are worried about Pep Guardiola getting him back.
This new report, however, shows the Serie A side would be actually fine by making such a quick profit.
They say this is a ‘win-win’ situation, as they’d be happy to reinvest that money in other targets as well, even though their primary intention is to keep the player for many years.
