Basaksehir president Goksel Gumusdag has today spoken to the Turkish media after his side drew Club Brugge in the Champions League qualifiers.
Sabah have reported on comments made by Gumusdag in which he confirmed the Turkish club have signed former Leicester City midfielder Gokhan Inler, and that they are also interested in Birmingham City’s Kerim Frei.
Gumusdag said: “We started talking with Kerim Frei… We have not agreed with the club for Kerim, but we’re talking. No deal yet.”
The interest in the Birmingham City attacker makes sense with Basaksehir set to lose Cengiz Under to Roma for €15m. Like Under, Frei is a left footed winger who can play on both wings, and he’s already played under Basakeshir manager Abdullah Avcı, for the Turkish national team.
Frei signed for Birmingham City in the last transfer window for €2.5m. However, the 23 year old made 13 just appearances for Birmingham City, with 10 of those coming off the bench.
It seems Frei isn’t in the plans of Birmingham City manager Harry Redknapp, and a move back to Turkey is a strong possibility this summer.
