Wanting Granit Xhaka last summer, and doing nearly everything in their power to get the Arsenal midfielder, AS Roma fell just short of their goal.
The reason for that was their reluctance to meet the Gunners’ asking price for the Swiss midfielder, as Edu Gaspar refused to budge and lower his stance.
That led to José Mourinho never getting the regista he so dearly wanted, but with Xhaka still failing to fully endear himself to the Arsenal fanbase, a new attempt in the summer could be on the cards.
Corriere dello Sport look at this on Wednesday, explaining that Tiago Pinto is ‘still monitoring the situation’ of the midfielder, who appears to remain top of the Portuguese manager’s list.
He isn’t the only Arsenal player being looked at, either, as the newspaper explain that ‘the name of Alexandre Lacazette’, whose contract at the Emirates expires in the summer, has emerged in Spain as a target for AS Roma.
However, they do point out the interest in the striker is ‘unaccounted for’ within the Italian club, meaning Corriere haven’t been able to confirm it, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t keeping an eye on the situation.
They’d be foolish not to, after all, since the former Lyon man could be a free transfer for them, which we all know Serie A clubs are fond of.
