Everton will face competition from Borussia Dortmund if they attempt to lure Moussa Diaby away from Bayer Leverkusen this summer.
That’s according to FootMercato, who say that Dortmund chief Michael Zorci is ‘seriously considering’ recruiting Diaby and Youssouf Fofana this summer.
The website explains how Dortmund have made great use of the French market in recent years, signing players such as Abdou Diallo, Dan-Axel Zagadou and Raphaël Guerreiro, all players who’ve passed the French league at some point.
Those have all proven to be successful signings, and that has given their recruitment team ideas about the future.
One man on their list is Monaco’s Youssouf Fofana, who has ‘caught the eye’ of the German club after impressing in Ligue 1 this season.
The second Frenchman ‘targeted’ is Diaby, who has established himself with Bayer Leverkusen and impressed with ten goals and 15 assists in 41 appearances in all competitions this season.
That form has already ‘attracted a number of big-name clubs’, including Everton, who recently ‘came calling’, as was reported on Saturday.
Only an ‘interesting offer’ could make Leverkusen sell the player, who is under contract until 2025, but according to FM’s information, Zorc is ‘seriously considering’ a bid for both players, who are represented by the same agency.
That means Everton will have serious competition for Diaby if they decide to move for him this summer.
Indeed, Dortmund would arguably be a far more attractive prospect at this moment in time, even if the Toffees can offer the chance to work with Carlo Ancelotti and star in the Premier League.
They may want to move quickly to get Diaby if they’re seriously interested, although we suspect there’s a little bit of game playing going on from whoever represents both players in an attempt to drum up interest or convince the likes of Everton to hurry up and get serious.
