New Sevilla director of sports Joaquin Caparros has opened the door for Steven N’Zonzi to leave the club in the summer transfer window.
The France international was unhappy with his position with the La Liga outfit and tried to push for an exit in the January transfer window. However, Sevilla parted ways with Eduardo Berizzo last December and replaced him with Vincenzo Montella the same month and calmed things.
N’Zonzi continued at Sevilla until the end of the 2017/18 season. AS reports the midfielder is attracting interest from the Premier League, with Arsenal and Chelsea believed to be interested in his services.
The former Blackburn Rovers and Stoke City midfielder has a €40m release clause in his contract. Former Sevilla coach Unai Emery is the new manager at Arsenal, and Caparros has told told and the Gunners what they have to do if they want to sign N’Zonzi.
“Is that rumour or is it true?” Unai Emery has called you? Well, as a successful man, Unai Emery knows what line the club keeps. if he wants N’Zonzi, he will have to call and put the bid in. And the bid is the clause, if you put that bid, then there is no more negotiations [over the fee],” Caparros told Radio Seville.
Caparros also admitted that there is a possibility N’Zonzi could sign a new contract, if new Sevilla manager Pablo Machin decides against sanctioning the player’s sale.
“We could even extend the contract, if the coach gives the green signal. Everything is possible,” he added.
