Galatasaray president Mustafa Cengiz held a press conference yesterday to discuss the latest developments at the club and their pursuit of Stoke City midfielder Badou Ndiaye.

Ndiaye has been linked with a return to Galatasaray after only joining Stoke City in the last window.

Cengiz said as covered by Sporx: “Ndiaye was earning €390K per year at Osmanlispor just a year ago. We signed him, paid him €2.75m per year. Now he’s at Stoke City, earning closer to €3.5m per year.

“If you ask me, this is too much for us to afford. To be honest, we can’t pay those kind of wages and we don’t want to pay those kind of wages. If he wants to come, then he needs to lower his demands.”

The Galatasaray chief has previously stated Ndiaye needs to make some sacrifices in order to return to the club and play in the Champions League.

It’s been well documented the Stoke City man is a prime target for Galatasaray manager Fatih Terim in this transfer window, and the Turkish side are still hoping an agreement can be reached with both the Championship club and the player.

Ndiaye has also been linked with a return to the Premier League with Wolves and Newcastle United.
