Besiktas president Fikret Orman has told the Turkish press he has no intention of selling Oguzhan Ozyakup. The midfielder was linked with a move to West Ham United last month.
Orman told the Turkish media during the press conference for Pepe’s arrival: “He’s our team captain. I told him before that he has to finish his career here. He’s a great player. You can see, he was just a kid when we first signed him from Arsenal but now, he’s the leader of the champion team. We would like to work together with him for the foreseeable future.”
Ozyakup was also quizzed on his future during yesterday’s ceremony: “I want to celebrate last season’s success, and I’ve been asked many times, but I’m happy at Besiktas.”
Despite these comments Ozyakup has yet to commit his long term future to Besiktas, and there have been recent claims of a move to West Ham this summer.
Last month we covered reports from Turkey that West Ham are looking to sign Ozyakup, and that Slaven Bilic wanted to be reunited with the player following their time together at Besiktas. Ozyakup is stalling on extending his contract with Besiktas, with claims he could be interested in a move to West Ham.
His club aren’t keen to sell in the next window, but with just 12 months left on his contract they could be under pressure in the coming weeks.
