On Wednesday, German newspaper Bild brought the Dejan Ljubicic to Leeds United rumour back to life.

The Whites had reportedly made a €4m offer weeks earlier, an amount which was immediately dismissed by FC Cologne, and it was stated if Leeds United still wanted to sign the midfielder then a ‘mega offer’ would be needed.

No figure was attached to that claim although the amount needed probably isn’t quite ‘mega’ in relation to Leeds, but more so to the German club.

Ljubicic himself was said to have been thinking about a move on and off, so there could be some temptation in that regard.

FC Cologne’s ‘head of first team football’ Thomas Kessler has been asked about the Austrian given the recent links with Leeds United, and he joked that they’re doing all they can to make him feel at home.

KSTA.de quote him as saying: “I’m not afraid that Dejo will leave the club. We have even built an Austrian coaching team for him so that he will lack nothing here, so I firmly believe that he will remain our player.”

Austrian Gerhard Struber is the head coach at FC Cologne, and both of his assistants are from the same country.

Should Ljubicic be so keen on having Austrians around then Maximilian Wöber could come in handy.
