Tottenham Hotspur’s search for José Mourinho’s successor goes on, more than two months after showing the Portuguese tactician the exit door.
Over the past few weeks, several coaches have been linked with the vacant managerial job at the north London club, and among them was Julen Lopetegui.
On June 15th, we carried a report from Marca, who explained Spurs have ‘knocked on the door’ of the Sevilla manager.
It was also explained Tottenham were ready to pay his €5m release clause to take him away from the La Liga side, but the ex-Real Madrid manager turned down the approach made by Spurs.
These claims are now confirmed by Sevilla president José Castro Carmona during an interview with Cadena Ser’s program, El Larguero.
“Julen called me and told me. That he had received offers… and a dizzying one from Tottenham. But he told me that he does not forget things and that he is very excited here,” José Castro Carmona said, as relayed by Sevilla’s official website.
“We believed and believe in him, signing him for two more years, and I’m sure he will give much more. We have to recognise his ability and his leadership and you see that every day.
“There are coaches to whom the economic issue can incite them more, but Julen has had it very clear. He is very happy here and even told me that he will hardly work in another club better than here.”
Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy appointed Fabio Paratici as their new managing director of football and the former Juventus director will have a huge role to play in appointing the club’s new manager.
