For the past few days, the idea that Newcastle United are interested in Carles Pérez, currently at AS Roma, has grown.
Claims of approaches and potential offers being made have surfaced, but despite these, few steps forward have been taken, and Corriere dello Sport explain why.
The Italian newspaper, looking at the remaining business the Serie A side have to do this transfer window, report the player ‘will stay at AS Roma barring offers that cannot be refused’.
It’s revealed Newcastle ‘wanted him on loan’, but that Tiago Pinto, the general director, ‘after consulting José Mourinho, decided to reject the hypothesis’.
As for the player in all of this, it’s said he ‘wasn’t enthusiastic about leaving’ the Italian side, having ‘worked hard during summer to earn his stay’.
It appears he’s just about done enough, and, unless Newcastle throw the kitchen sink at him to please Steve Bruce, which seems unlikely, then he will be remaining in Italy’s capital for the foreseeable future.
