With Roma not giving up on the signing of Granit Xhaka from Arsenal, Italian outlet Calciomercato today reports the Giallorossi’s late efforts to land the midfielder in January.
The outlet claims manager José Mourinho continues to wait for a ‘gift’ from the club to reinforce their midfield, and with Boubacar Kamara becoming a difficult target, the Swiss international is back on the table.
Calciomercato recalls that Roma wanted Xhaka in the summer and their attempt was blocked by his new deal with Arsenal. However, as the Gunners may now sign Arthur from Juventus, that may change the situation at the club.
So Roma director Tiago Pinto is now ‘hoping’ of signing the 29-year-old on a loan with the right for a permanent deal, with it said an agreement is ‘difficult, but not impossible’.
Xhaka has only made 13 appearances for Arsenal this season, having missed over two months due to a ligament injury.
Now in case his departure from the Emirates Stadium is really related to Arthur’s arrival, Roma are certainly watching this move very closely.
