Napoli director Antonio D’Amore has hinted their upcoming clash with Leicester City could be postponed due to Covid restrictions.
Leicester are set to host their Italian counterparts later this month for the opening clash of the Europa League group stages.
It’s already been reported that they could be without three key players due to Coronavirus restrictions, with David Ospina the likeliest to miss out.
Players impacted would have to quarantine on arrival in England, with the current rules stating that anyone who has been in a red country in the last ten days must quarantine for the same period in a hotel on their arrival in the country.
That could see at least one Napoli player, and potentially a few, miss the clash with Leicester, putting the Serie A side at a considerable disadvantage from a situation out of their control.
D’Amore clearly believes that is unfair, though, and has hinted the game could be postponed instead.
“There are several Napoli players who have to return from red zones; according to English protocol, they could not play, will Leicester-Napoli be suspended?” he told Punto Nuovo Sport show, relayed by Area Napoli.
“This is not a question you have to ask me but the English authorities. I think all the players are vaccinated, and when they come back from red zones, the protocol for workers must be applied.
“In Europe, I think that’s how the situation should be resolved. In the light of what happened in Rio de Janeiro during Brazil-Argentina, could the authorities have been less theatrical?
“Certainly yes, they could have spared the entrance to the field also because the situation is exactly different to a year ago.”
