Malmo sporting director Daniel Andersson has spoken to the Swedish media about his reasons for signing Marcus Antonsson in the last transfer window after becoming a ‘forgotten’ man whilst at Leeds United.
The forward struggled during his time at Elland Road, but he’s re-discovered his form since moving back to his home country.
Speaking to Fotboll Direkt, Andersson was asked why he took the decision to sign Antonsson following his woes in England: “I watched footage of his matches… but also live. Then I talked to many people who knew a lot about him. And that picture turned out well. It was clear he hadn’t got worse, this along with a very nice personality.”
Antonsson signed for Leeds United in 2016 but he played just a handful of games in his debut season for the club. Subsequently he was loaned to Blackburn Rovers last season before his permanent transfer to Malmo in the summer.
Under the guidance of Uwe Rosler, the attacker has been in impressive form since joining the Swedish club, and he was key in his side reaching the knockout stage of the Europa League.
His goal against Besiktas earlier this month earned Malmo a tie with Chelsea in the next round.
