On Monday, an interesting story emerged in the Italian media regarding Robin Olsen and his future at Everton.
The Sweden international was loaned to Carlo Ancelotti’s side for the 2020-21 season by AS Roma in hope he would get game time, which he did, as the 31-year-old featured more than first expected, providing much needed competition to Jordan Pickford.
The Everton manager made it clear he appreciated what Olsen brought to the table, meaning an extended stay at Goodison Park makes a ton of sense.
Whether that takes place remains to be seen, but it appears it’s something those in charge at AS Roma are working on, according to TuttoMercatoWeb.
In a big article looking at the Serie A side’s goalkeeping situation, the Italian website carry on from Monday’s Corriere dello Sport and Gazzetta dello Sport articles by stating Tiago Pinto, the general director there, ‘is trying to renew the loan with Everton these days’.
This suggests talks are currently underway between the two clubs, and with Olsen contracted to the Italian side until 2023, there is still time for him to increase his value further in England if he continues to feature sporadically under Ancelotti.
We’ll have to see if this actually happens, but it’s almost a no brainer for the Toffees, especially if the Swede is happy to simply provide competition for the number one.
